Our Heritage of Eyecare

University Eye Surgeons Vision Healthcare Centers has been providing vision care to East Tennesseans for over 60 years. Our practice originated when Dr. John L. Montgomery, Sr., the first board certified Ophthalmologist (EyeMD) in the region, established his practice in 1936. over the years, leading ophthalmic surgeons and subspecialists from around the country have joined the practice, now known as University Eye Surgeons.

Today, University Eye Surgeons is a prestigious group of ophthalmologists (EyeMD) and optometrists, respected regionally and nationally for their contributions to eye care. Each of the four vision healthcare centers has a sincere and caring team of medical, technical and administrative professionals who stand ready to help not only those with serious eye disorders, but also those patients who request routine eye examinations, contact lens fitting, or glasses. University Eye Surgeons Vision Healthcare Center physicians are credentialed by all of the leading area hospitals and participate in most major health insurance plans.
